Description
hawk in moonlight
and now
under the crystalline gaze
of the frost moon
i stand
saying goodbye to this
coarsegrained strand
the sea that has been my refuge
from the intrusive world
no longer is it
safe
my feathers are ruffled
by ill winds
i always knew
this day would come
and now the hour
has arrived
but could not leave
without this visit
for who knows when or if
i will see these waters again
i will find a high plateau
from which to fly
this ribbon of sodden sand
is not a place from which to launch
and so farewell to sea
hills green in summer
gold in fall
the home that hatched this pilgrim
i pray
the moon's bright light
so close to earth this chilly night
will last
until i find a gentler roost
in which to build a nest
if such a thing
can be discovered

The elegant simplicity and depth of this moonlit seashore draws forth emotions and memories, RC!

RC this is a mystical piece of art! The shimmering moon, dancing clouds, and subtle light, reflection, and exquisite handling of the surf is awe inspiring!

I love this moonlit scene. There's a feeling of peace and timelessness, and I can hear the waves in my mind. Beautiful light and tones. I love the reflection on the water and love the clouds and stars and that marvelous moon. Gorgeous. And I love your poem Gina. Am I right that it's from a bird's pov? Or is it a human soul that must leave and find another place? Either way, it's powerful and poignant and beautifully done. l/f!
RC DeWinter replied:
Thank you, Nancy, I grew up a tenth of a mile from this beach. The poem is a metaphor, indeed. America is not going to be place I know anymore.
