Old Velvet Street
The house sits, bare and alone,
far from town
at the end of Old Velvet Street.
Four empty rooms,
two up,
two down,
sheathed in cedar sea-beaten grey,
sighing spruce surrounding it,
tall soldiers in green.
Silent old house,
empty
recluse,
except for feathered divas,
jewel-toned,
darting in the wood unafraid.
Old Velvet Street: ashes and stone.
