A Dozen Lines from a Single Rose
I unfurl my petals in the sun of your gaze,
loving the look on your face when you say
"Je t'adore."
But you have not yet explored my thorns,
the ones so artfully disguised
by my lushness.
I take nothing for granted,
for you have yet to plumb my depths.
I wait, mantled in my greenery,
hoping you will not find yourself caught,
hurting and helpless,
on what cannot be blunted.
