An Interrogatory Of The Heart
No blushing maiden I, yet in your gaze
I feel a girl again, awkward and shy,
Emotion long abandoned now ablaze
In light of what your interest doth imply.
For my lorn heart, so safely locked away
From Love's sweet barbs that often leave a scar,
So long neglected, almost gone astray,
Has been well-schooled to blandishments disbar.
But something in your eyes doth gentle me,
Incline me to your unspoken pursuit.
Is what you offer born of verity
That will dormant affection restitute?
If yes, then come and gift me with your charms,
For truth in love all doubtfulness disarms.
