A vintage Monarch wood and coal stove sits on display in an antique kitchen in the J.R. Watkins Heritage Museum in Winona, Minnesota.
In 1868 J.R Watkins of Plainview, Minnesota, working out of his home, concocted an all-natural liniment that is still sold today. The success of he liniment launched the company that is still one of the premier purveyors of apothecary and culinary products and ingredients, and in 1869 became the first American company to offer customers a money-back guarantee.
J.R. Watkins moved his business to Winona in 1885. At the time the city, located on te banks of the Mississippi River in the southeastern portion of the state, was a bustling transportation hub, logging town and the state's fourth largest city.
Visitors to Watkins today can purchase an array of new and old products as well as tour the Heritage Museum, featuring
historic displays of American life and times. You can learn more about this iconic American company and its success story by visiting their timeline here: http://www.jrwatkins.com/timeline.aspx
