spring cleaning
it's spring
the earth is once again exposed
revealing all of winter's
cruel depredations
that ugly storm with all the ice
brought down a branch from the magnolia
there it lies
unclothed on the front lawn
along with a collection
of dead leaves and broken twigs
that i forgot to rake before the snow fell
and fell
and fell
the furious cold froze everything
entombing all outside neglected
white mausoleums stretching
just as far as i could see
in several vain foolhardy forays
i ran out time and time again
in wind and weather
trying to latch the ancient door
on that old shed behind the house
i don'i know what i thought
i was protecting
crammed as it is with nothing
but old junk well past redeeming
i hate to think of going in there
but i guess i'm going to have to
it really needs a cleaning
and there's no one else to do it
slug that i am i've put it off too long
way past time to haul
that useless stuff down to the dump
but not today
today i sit puddled in dirty water
now that the ice has melted
just like everything outside
i too am once again exposed
not thinking barely breathing
ineluctably reluctant to examine
what it is that's left of me

Love the colors - despite the poem and details of neglect, there's still something very fresh about this image!
