Starvation
The beauty of the world is lost to me,
my eyes are misted to the shining moon,
birdsong a racket of cacophony,
to even music are my ears immune.
My soul unhinged, how long before my mind
will fracture, useless neurons firing blanks
into a wasteland, empty, misaligned,
with fate a cosmic joker playing pranks.
Spare me motheaten platitudes, I pray,
some things are well beyond what can be changed.
Tomorrow is a replay of today,
only the date and time are rearranged.
I never mastered sinian chi ku,
and choke on toasted bitterness and rue.

"Chi Ku" is Chinese for "to eat bitterness." This refers to the ability for one to endure hardship without becoming a bitter person.
The full moon illuminates the beautiful foliage and a farm field on a November night in Cornwall, Connecticut. Reimagined and painted from a photograph by Brian Coppola.

I love the giant moon and the gorgeous rich colors of the trees! And I love your sky! There's magic in the atmosphere here. And the contrast with the emotions of the poem is marvelous! Beautifully done! l/f!
RC DeWinter replied:
It's a bit more saturated than my usual, so while I was at it I created an exaggerated moon as well. I'm glad you think it works, Meg, I value your insights, thank you.

I love this gorgeous, if not somewhat lonely feeling work. Your story speaks of pain that seems without end. What I have often called the long road of regret. Gorgeous work my friend.
