I've been a little under it lately, not feeling all that well and needing more sleep than usual. If there's a silver lining, it's that even a slight distemper of the body often produces vivid dreams, and so it has been for me.
The one that stands out most clearly brought Vincent back to roam the night with me. In this dream, we were strolling in a place completely unfamiliar to me, although Vincent was quite at home.
"Welcome to my jardin japonais," he said. "Although I have not been privileged to see that enchanted land in the flesh, so to speak, I dream of it often. And in my dreams I am always here, in a multi-colored universe quite unlike anywhere else."
Looking around, I could see that indeed this garden was quite unlike anywhere one might see in the real world. The sky was a misty shade somewhere between yellow and ocher, and what trees there were grew wild in tangled, silhouetted black against that sky.
There was a large pond bisected by a footbridge so narrow we had to walk in single file to cross the water. The stone of bridge was painted in vivid red-orange and gold with touches of sky blue, and koi - not the shimmer-scaled kind most often seen, but darting dark slivers barely visible in the deep blue of the pond - swam close to us as we walked, hoping for tidbits.
Vincent was clearly aware of their expectations, for he reached into his cost pocket and drew forth large crumbs of stale bread that he tossed into the water.
"I would be remiss not to feed them," he said, "for I find it so relaxing to watch them navigate among the water weeds."
When we crossed the bridge we sat down underneath one of those unusual trees, not often speaking, just enjoying the quiet of the tranquil garden. After some time had passed, Vincent got up and holding out his hand, helped me to my feet.
"Come," he said. "It is time for us to go. If we stay too long we will not be able to find our way back to where we truly belong. And I have much work to do yet, many more visions to record."
We walked silently, and halfway through, the garden began to fade. I opened my eyes and saw pale sunlight peeking in the window. Another day, and more work for me to do as well.
Arising, I shook myself fully awake. Grabbing a pen and paper, I made some quick notes so as to be able to show you my interpretation of Vincent's Japanese garden in all its surreal splendor.

I so love this image paired with the marvelous description. Beautiful work, Gina. Beautiful details here and there that tease the mind. It needs 6 more "likes" to qualify for 50 plus.
