the sky that october night
was an ocean of every blue ever imagined
seeded with freshwater pearls of countless stars
the moon hung round and ripe and low
a palegold saltwater peach drizzling juice
over the trees the lake and us
as we promised each other forever
and you
doing your best jimmy stewart
offered to pluck that moon for me
but i just laughed and said no leave it
all i want is you
i try not to think about that night
but i'm standing outside
under another harvest moon
in a different forever
one without you
polluting that ocean
with smoke rings and tears
still not sure
how the juice of that promise
soured so quickly
and now
there's no one offering me the moon
but if there were i'd say yes
