i am a red rose - love triumphant lives! -
my velvet petals curl around your heart.
but handle this rare blossom carefully,
for my sharp thorns can surely make you bleed.
and while i will not bid to slit your skin,
it is my one defense against rapine.
for even love of you will not allow
my person to be sacrificed in vain.
so pluck me if you will, my cavalier,
but cherish what you've chosen to possess,
lest i in all my loveliness do turn
and loose my unforgiving sharp redress
