Located on Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda, Maryland since 1932, the Montgomery County Farm Woman's Cooperative Market was an outgrowth of existing, smaller club programs that provided local farm women places to exchange ideas, learn new skills and keep up with agricultural developments.
Through the efforts of Blanche Corwin, a county employee, the cooperative market was set up to give these women a venue to sell products from their farms in order to help relieve the ravages of the Depression.
Initially the women sold meats, dairy products, produce, jams and canned and baked goods through the market. As time went on, the offerings expanded to include arts and crafts, clothing, antiques and collectibles and other items of interest to the public.
The market still stands today, and though Montgomery County is not the rural place it once was, local women still sell a variety of goods here every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 8 AM to 4 PM year round.
