downtown for dinner
at late dinner hour the town is lovely
sidewalks cleared of crowds
streets crossable at any point one wishes
all the family folk at home - or nearly there -
recovering from another day at work
it's my favorite time to wander
most shops are closed by now
one gazes in their windows unmolested
and if a sudden desire for food or drink
seizes the soul
you have your choice of pleasant venues
i often think of stopping in
some small quiet cafe but never do
i'm waiting for the evening i can do that -
but with you
