dustbowl
life begins to pale
like a painting fading in harsh sun
the land i walk is barren
devoid of the sweet springs of affection
and all my blossoms once so lush
wither in loam baked to sand
they say miracles occur
that even the dryest desert will explode
in a riot of life and color
a friend even sent me a picture
of death valley dotted with wildflowers
but i don't see that happening here
