Wisewoman's World
Supplicants arrive unexpectedly
at the door of the wisewoman,
often under cover of night
so as not to advertise their need
for assistance.
"I want a child."
"Cast me a love charm."
"Cure my sick husband."
"Banish my neighbor."
There's no telling what a wisewoman will hear.
If she's true to her calling and her craft
there will be some she cannot help,
and others she will not -
for the remedy they seek brings with it
too much darkness and travail.
It's not an easy gift,
this mantle of magick,
but one that when successful
brings joy, or at least
a modicum of comfort,
to the seeker.
A wisewoman's life is a lonely one.
Apart from being sought for her skill
she is often shunned,
feared and distrusted in the every day
even by those whom she helps.
And further, it is not meet
to work the wand for her own gain.
She must pray that what good she does
ripples back to her
in karmic payment for her wisdom.
