I hadn't seen Vincent in more than a year and I missed him. He'd always manifested when I needed guidance and wisdom. I've been afraid I would never see him again, that he'd never again materialize when life was at its lowest ebb.
I'd come to depend on Vincent. He's always known when I needed a hand to pull me back from the edge. He's been there when I needed someone who could understand the torment in my soul. And being who he is, he did, without my ever having to explain. There's never been anyone else who could.
Then one day last week I reached into the mailbox, expecting to find the usual junk and there was an envelope addressed in his distinctive hand. Although I wished he'd come in person, I smiled and immediately opened it. But it wasn't a letter, it was a card, with a beautiful tree standing in a winter snowfall. It bore all the hallmarks of his amazing work, and I couldn't wait to read what was inside.
"Ma cher, I apologize for my long absence. I have been lost in the mists of time, unable to cross the great barrier to see you."
I felt tears prickle; I couldn't help it. I've been missing him so deeply.
"I meant to send this at Christmastime, but misplaced it and have only now found it. So here it is. I hope you have been remembering our conversations, and using your head as well as your heart to navigate everything - good and bad - life sends your way."
By now I was weeping, wishing he was standing in the kitchen with me, but grateful to have some word from him, as well as the small beautiful painting he'd made just for me.
"I close with wishes for your happiness, and until the time we can again share the same space, remember your gifts, use them well, and never give up, for it is a crime not to use the talent with which you have been blessed. I do not know when we may meet again, but believe I think of you often and wish I could be there when you need a friend. You are ever in my thoughts. Vincent"

I don't know how I missed your stunning tree and tribute to Van Gogh....or your words which have me nearly in tears...so true that art can come to us and be the healer when nothing else suffices...or even comes close to helping. I love that you have van Gogh as a visitor to you. I'll try to imagine this also when my skies darken. Thanks, Gina for such beauty.
