new digs
a door closed
implacably
resolutely
i had to
walk through a wall
to get out of that box
i emerged ragged round the edges
but with major vital organs
all intact
not twenty paces further
and another door
i had options
i could have passed it by
but being the cat that
curiosity will someday kill
(for all the raw rubbed places
thanks to furniture upholstered
in horsehair sackcloth grief
you'd think i might've skittered off)
i walked right in
not a bit surprised to find
it was the same room
only different
the harsh settee
had been replaced
a wellworn leather couch
invited lounging
gone was the arsenal of arrows
poisoned just enough
to sicken not to kill
no swords hung on the walls
there was no judgment seat
the light from the windows
at each point of the compass
was a clearer brighter light
than any i had seen in that old room
but in the air
so faint that nostrils not attuned
might miss it altogether
a ghost of brimstone
at odds somehow
with that clearer brighter light
and mixed with that
an even fainter tang of my own favorite
frankincense
to leaven leaden brimstone
with desire
i knew then i had found
the perfect combination
hell and heaven
and heaving myself onto that couch
lay down
awaiting the arrival
of my lord and master

Very creative, Gina. Fascinating reversal of the colors of the window frames and the colors of the views from them. f/l
