christmas eve
everything sparkles
the silver
the mirrors
the blooddark wine in crystal
everything but the conversation
gossip
inanities
football and bunions
divorces
vacations
this tree on a table pretending to be alive
smothered in lights tinsel
ornaments hung on dead branches
made of petroleum leftovers
i stand
back to the merriment
the dullest thing here
as dead as the tree
gazing at stars and snow falling in moonlight
remembering what it felt like to belong

Gorgeous yet sad. The image is full of cheer, but the poem tells the real story. I've missed your work. :o)

I, too, have a tabletop Christmas tree which is still up, because I love the lights. This is yet another exquisite image, Gina, with it's lighting and gentle textures. Your artistry amazes me! like/f
