Sun Surrendered
The days are long, the nights not long enough
to drown the dust of longing in my heart,
the life I'm living nothing but a bluff,
a house of cards about to fall apart.
They said I was supposed to be the sun,
a brilliant blossom radiating light,
but that was long ago, and now undone,
I seek the anonymity of night.
For shadows mask the harshness sun reveals,
providing blessed sanctuary from
the glare of all the jangled world's ordeals,
while giving space for dreams that may yet come.
I am the sun surrendered to the dark,
always a nightingale, never a lark.

The sun slides gently below the horizon on a peaceful summer night at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore along Lake Superior in Michigan. Reimagined and painted in digital oils from a photograph by Brian Coppola.

I love your poem, especially the phrase 'always a nightingale, never a lark.' Fabulous painting too. I love how your night paintings have stars. :o)
RC DeWinter replied:
Stars are iconic for me, always have been. But not too gaudy, ever...just there, quietly glowing. Thanks so much, Bunny.
Meg Shearer
I love the tones and light and sprinkle of stars. And I love your technique and how the landscape is almost broken into shapes. It's gorgeous Gina. And wow, I love your poem. Brilliant and powerful l/f!
RC DeWinter replied:
What can I say but thank you for your extravagantly kind words and encouragement?
