momentary lapse
another day dies
in the splendor of a summer sunset
there is no sadness in the heavens
rocks are unburdened with worry
they stay their courses unthinking
spinning in unseen grooves
ordained by the unknowable
the waves of the bay
unmoved by the sun's desertion
continue their gentle susurration
as off to the west rises venus
goddess of love
the evening star
unaware of the magick we invest
in its appearance
lost in the darkening blue
years fall away
taking life's cynical accretions with them
and i on the shore
am suddenly sixteen again
whispering star light star bright
then catch myself
ashamed to be exposed
in the nakedness of naivete
turning my back to the sunset
the waves and childish wishes
craving the consolation of self-destruction
i light a cigarette and head for the car
picking up on the way
all the armor i'll need
to face another sunrise

Tanya Filichkin
I like your works related to the ocean- it is resonates with me since I also live close to the ocean and love its beauty, power and tranquility in a same time, just feeling of being on a beach - is nothing to compare with- all of that is reflected in your beautiful work supported by brilliant writing, Gina-love it! l/f
RC DeWinter replied:
The ocean, the moon, the stars and music are m oxygen, Tanya. They fuel everything I create in one way or another. Thank you.

You capture that bit of whimsy and magical splendor in both your digital painting, as well as your eloquent and moving description, RC! I found myself identifying with those very thoughts and feelings about the wistfulness and idealistic view about the world we seem to have at 16, but then like the sunset, as in life, the dream seems to fade and haunt us, but then we begin to remember once again as we look back up at the sky and become awestruck like we were as a young girl with the splendor of a beautiful sunrise or sunset! Love this! Fave! L/F/FB!

Such masterful work. Incredible that it started out as a photograph.. it's just so paintlike.. well done!
RC DeWinter replied:
TY Maggie,,,my hand doesn't work with my eyes, otherwise I'd be doing it in oils. I'm happy you think I have approximated that.
Lucinda Walter
A very beautiful moody image. Lovely l/f
RC DeWinter replied:
Glad you like it, Lucinda, thank you...a touch of impressionism always helps the mood.
