nice try
oh it was all over wasn't it
on that cliche of a fateful night
the ides of march
i confessed
you denied
and that
as they say
was that
i purged myself
of your shadow
starving my soul ruthlessly
tossing and turning
and missing those midnight words
but i did it
licked my wounds
bathed them in the balm of regret
and finally
starved you out
or so i thought
yet despite my wish
you live
a small persistent flame
embers on these pages
your blood my ink
as i write illegible
illegitimate words
of love
