slow fade
some say time is a clock
ticking away our allotted span
until the appointed hour
of eternal silence
some say time is a river
carrying us downstream
to whatever waits
beyond the dam of consciousness
some say time is an hourglass
shedding grains of life
until all sit quiet in the bottom chamber
never to be turned
i say time is an eraser
quiet
invisible
silently wiping away
everything and everyone we know
along with bits and pieces
of our very selves
until we turn one day
to life's mirror
and it reflects back nothing
but a shadow of what once was

Striking portrait and even more striking idea of how we will slowly be a shadow. The eyes will be the last smudge! Great work! F/L

Oh my, Gina...the image and the poem so gripped me ...time is so cruel, yes. Emotional and great work! L&F&T, hope you have a beautiful weekend, Christel.

Powerful image and sentiment, Gina......Years ago when I saw my grandmother just days before she died, I remember looking into her eyes. In youth they were dark brown, but now they were soft grey and I thought, "So this is what they mean by they just fade away!" Sadly, I have seen that way too many times recently and you have captured that feeling perfectly with this image and poem!...fv
