the prodigal returns
back home again
i stood under hot red lights
i'd been so long away
and yet once there felt like i'd never left
the slow blue notes washed over me
tongues of flame setting my soul on fire
and what a sweet homecoming it was
i loosed that fire
the room exploded
and when the last echo faded into black
the backdraft
a rolling wave of warmth more satisfying
than the embrace of any lover
consumed me
i closed my eyes and wondered
why i'd ever run away
