vigil
autumn comes quickly now
i turn around
and there it is
arriving in a sudden blaze
of stainedglass color
shot through with light
so glorious so clear
it illuminates a foretaste
of the cold to come
i sit at my window
gazing out to sea
it glitters whitecapped
whipped to foam
by the same wind
that scuds the clouds
mercury's messengers
through a blueness
only death could ever douse
i am watching for the ship
i hope is coming
responding to the signal
sent from that sure lamp
that blazes in
the lighthouse of my heart
ever constant never darkened
by the turning of time's wheel

This amazing house, which is actually designed as a miniature Gothic castle with a turret on the opposite wing, stands overlooking Long Island Sound in Southport, Connecticut. You can see that turret in my painting "We Have Always Lived in the Castle."
This painting has been FEATURED in too many groups to list.
Thanks to the group hosts for their encouragement and support.

Many thanks, Lois, it's a detail of my dream house on the sea, a miniature castle about 2 miles from where I grew up.

Gina this is just completely stunning - your technique is brilliant. Marvelous style and of course, I adore the subject matter too. Your poetry touches me deeply because I can so relate to this. I passionately love to be by the sea - see it as a metaphor for life and your poetry reflects the same longing I feel. F/V
RC DeWinter replied:
Thank you, Lianne, for your lovely feedback and encouragement, I'm glad the piece and the poetry spoke to you.

PS---you captured some of my thoughts in your writing---"it illuminates a foretaste of the cold to come"---(I am still not believing that is is actually fall--and l love fall--but not through with spring and summer yet---"---the turning of time's wheel---" by RC de Winter (nothing seems to slow time down--even though I am so aware of how fast it keeps going)
RC DeWinter replied:
No, time doesn't c are, it moves on...I'm glad the words spoke to you, Nava, thanks for reading.
