fragile threads

the click of the keys
reverberates through
this shell of stark silence
every chirp of that infernal phone
(my conduit to life)
tells me
someone i have never seen
approves of something
i've said
not aloud but in pixels
tapped into the ether
to the invisible construct
of a virtual universe
the hell of it is
no one talks back
i hear nothing but
that disembodied applause
and oh yes
the occasional complaint
from the cat
i sit
trying to gather
my scattered thoughts
into something
resembling coherence
but your voice
drowns out
my fragile threads
of reason
