off the grid
far away from the everyday
i live on the edge of the world
unreconstructed unkempt
camouflaged in memories and dreams
disengaged from the ratrace of gain
caring nothing for crumbs tossed as bait
i toil and spin in the distance of anonymity
my only visitors the lost passing by
on their way back to the safety of paved streets
pastry shops and night lights
none of these exist in my domain
there is nothing smooth or sweet here
where the shadows are left to their darkness
and a good day is one uninterrupted
by anything too real
like a house abandoned to nature
some day i will fall in on myself
no one will notice there will be no alarm
just a quiet burial under green leaves
while the world goes about its business

Vines and other plants grow up and around an abandoned house under a summer sky in rural South Carolina. Reimagined and painted in digital oils from a photograph by my G+ friend Mr. Steve.

Gorgeous painting. A feeling of warmth and home. Fabulous poem. I guess this type of place seems comfortable since it reminds me of my grandparents places. :o)

I love this abandoned house. There's something both poignant and intriguing. Beautiful work on the sky, and I love the tones and the tangle of vines and the atmosphere! Gorgeous work! And I love your poem Gina. It could be from the pov of the house itself. Beautifully done! l/f!

You know I love to paint night skies, it's not as easy for me to get a good daylight one, so I'm glad you like it. Many thanks for the encouraging words, Meg.
