finally
i remember the night you said
you loved me
it hangs
clear as a new-washed mirror
in the hallway of memory
i gaze into it often
we'd met by chance
i'd dropped an armload of books
on the sidewalk
you
hurrying to a meeting
stopped to help me pick them up
and one thing
as things often do
led to another
a tentative coffee
laughter over lunch
a movie and latenight latte
my heart
a feral thing
was wary of love's trap
the cruel leghold
that bites deep and scars
when finally
inevitably
sprung
but i could feel myself
melting
though that was my secret
and though we spent
glorious hours making love
i never broke my silence
it was a warm spring night
out in a downtown deserted
we walked arm in arm
back to your place
after a fashionably late dinner
underneath the clocktower
you stopped and turned
pulled me close
said i love you
i know you didn't see it
but the sky exploded
electricity everywhere
and everything lit up
i could hardly breathe
as i went spinning
clothed in the magick
of your smile

RC. this is a wonderful image of the city at night; the colors are so unusual and appealing and the perspective, just perfect! I love the prose poem; it draws one in deeply. l/f/g+
