To a Golden Rose
You glow with the ripeness of summer,
sungold shines through you.
The wind broadcasts your sweet perfume,
spreading through my garden
like the promise of another dawn.
Raindrops pearl on the surface of your petals,
never marring your inviolable beauty.
Oh, to be a lady of light!
But no,
I am a sport -
an imperfect flowering from a blighted branch.
Still, this dark blossom loves you.
