hiding in plain sight

they talk
not every day
but often enough
about all the usual
life and death
love and heartache
plumbing the great
philosophical questions
that plague us all
they never overstep a boundary
that line so easily crossed
between a woman and a man
they are great friends
so much alike
even their birthdays nearly match
she knows that he could be the one
he doesn't see it
but she knows
and as much as she would like to
never points out what is obvious
to all but him
she harnesses the words
that tremble on her tongue
captive butterflies
never to be released
unless
by some miraculous colligation
the lightbulb in his heart
comes on
she is standing right in front of him
the woman he could love
will it ever happen
or is this another case
of missing forest for the trees?
