Heathcliff's Soliloquy
She was my life, my soul,
the universe fashioned us for each other only.
Yet cruel circumstance conspired, most evilly,
to keep us from our destiny.
I too was at fault; I ran when I should not,
but everything I did, all that I became, was for her.
It mattered not; in that time of sundering
the stars then misaligned; there was no fixing.
So in my torment, blackness in my heart,
I used my cruelty as panacea.
When she died and I was left in my Gehenna
I cared for nothing but to join her.
And now I wait, a pilgrim at the window,
knowing she will pierce the veil
and some dark night return to rescue me.
