Imperfect Impulsive
Pour down, you April rains, baptize me,
Wash well my heart and exorcise me.
I have a gift for you, it's waiting
rinsed clean of all that would disguise me.
Here in my hand I hold a treasure,
It shall be yours - please recognize me.
My love is never lightly given.
My boldness here somewhat belies me.
I long to know your skin against me,
to share the sweetness love supplies me.
And yet perhaps my charms are paltry,
there is no way to glamorize me.
I shall not claim to any beauty
but what inside does energize me.
Steadfast and honest are the only
words I can use to colorize me.
And as I bring no earthly riches,
no greedy heart would rhapsodize me.
But think you greedy? No, I cannot,
to find you thus would all surprise me.
This ends my catalogue of virtue,
all I can say that dignifies me.
Will you ignore this lover's passion?
Can you not see you hypnotize me?
Is love so common to be scorned?
I think not, though your silence tries me.
You do not speak, see how I tremble
as courage flees? Silence defies me.
Will you accept or turn away now,
unmoved, choosing to despise me?
