invoking the dragon
in a blueblack sky
shot with flame
hangs a moon that glows
full ripe and round
as a drop of blood freshly shed,
surrounded by
the seven silver stars
of wisdom.
though i cannot see you,
i know that hidden
in that orb's design
you sit,
silent,
watching the world
with your ancient eyes.
carry me away,
oh leathern-winged dragon!
i would live with you
in your lamplit lair
uncomplaining
to be shut of the world
and all its troubles.
swoop down
and i will mount
your scaled spine
and, glorying in
the cool wind of farewell
go with you
and live forever and a day,
gazing down,
never regretting
what is lost.
