goodnight sun
i set out seeking sun
god knows i need some sunlight in my life
there was no sun
not finding it
i asked an old man passing if he'd seen it
oh yes he said his sad eyes shifting left
he pointed
wordless
to an alleyway ahead
i ran to see the sun and see i did
someone had captured it
and bricked it in a wall
all gold life-giving atoms mortared stiff
flattened hard and cold and lifeless
deader than the moon
now home again
defeated
i sit silent in senescence
sure of nothing
but the sunless days to come
