This is lovely, RC! One could take the title and the subject and see this piece as a reference to society, parents, men,and other women taking the beautiful young woman and clipping her in her growth and placing her in a lovely but confining frame: forever limiting her growth and her ultimate ability to reach her full potential. Fettered by societies idea of beauty, parents idea of propriety, a man's desire for the blooming youth, and other women's judgements on each other, which are often the harshest of all. That could be the take here. But I instead see the flower in the vase as reflecting the desire to bring the beauty closer to us. Not cutting it off, but rather doing our best to show it to greater advantage. Singular. Away from the crowd. So rather than in a "gilded cage," the flower is now set upon a greater stage. f+v=W

That's an interesting sociological perspective, thanks for your insight and the kind words.
