2He
when it became clear
as good well water
what we had -
and never really did
except for what was born
of imagination -
was over
i had to let it go
all of it
i became an arsonist of love
incinerating every dream -
for that's all there ever was -
with icecold deliberateness
determined to live without
the crutch of fantasy
i set fire to my soul
and stood back and watched it burn
now that my inner landscape
is a funeral pyre of feathered ash
i am a mass of helium
inert
without color scent or taste
not yet weighted by the yoke of reality
yet despite that conflagration
bits of memory resurrect
and when they do
i sleepless slave to habit
rise from my coffined bed
floating down to the cafe
where we spent far too many midnights
it's after hours locked deserted
i drift alone in moonlight
gazing through the window
near the table where we sat
no one sits there now
i am weightless
there is an emptiness
like that of the space left
when a tooth is lost
there is no pain
no need for analgesic
just awareness that
so much of me is gone
yet i don't regret your going

Wonderful, atmospheric and powerful artwork. I so connect with this piece. I grew up in an old 17th Century, English Coaching Inn. The term, after hours, meant that the inn was closed.....then, all was quiet, but for the memories ....echoes of male laughter.... whispers of intrigue....talk of revolution.... Thank you for sharing. L/F t g+

Wonderful play of light! Great capture!
RC DeWinter replied:
Thanks so much, Dirk...I created the light and the mood, it was painted from a broad daylight shot. Digital magick - it rules!
