once more into the breach
the sky crowns the earth
in gold and bruises
a traitor's coronet promising nothing
but blood and betrayal
i should go back to bed
hibernate
hide under the bedclothes until inky night
washes these portents away
but there is too much to do
and too little time to do it
turning away from the window
blearyeyed exhausted
i armor up
start the coffee
and swallowing the bitter gush of dawn
sketch out my battle plan
