Another night, the darkness closes in,
for company nothing but memories;
now let the evening's revelry begin.
A solitary meal has ever been
a punishment; yet I own all of these.
Another night - the darkness closes in.
And for dessert, my favorite secret sin:
self-pity, full of guilt's luscious reprise.
Now let the evening's revelry begin.
Sometimes I pretend to unzip my skin
and, snakelike, sport a fresh new flesh chemise.
Another night, the darkness closes in.
And now for solitaire: sometimes I win.
I turn the cards so carefully in threes.

No pity do I seek in my chagrin,
spare me your platitudes and sympathies.
