the book of revelation
having been too long
without someone to worship
i was looking for a god
i don't know how you knew this
before a word ever passed between us
but you did
you thrust yourself into my world
and fed me the gospel i needed
how skillfully you wove your tale
naively i believed it
i threw myself before you
a suicide on the tracks
waiting for deliverance
you built a shrine deep in the woods
for me
your congregation
and named yourself my savior lord
but brought me no redemption
i finally slammed my fist on the altar
and challenged the gospel you preached
you
needing no further adoration
and bored with maintaining charade
divested yourself of your holy robes
before turning and running away
but not before i saw
you were never even a man
let alone a god
but a manticore
your blueeyed face
sitting profanely atop
your four-legged tawny body
