Prowling
I love the city when it sleeps;
my footfalls on the sidewalk
echo as if they mean something.
Shop windows come alive;
their glamour stands in sharp relief in moonlight.
I linger undisturbed, admiring things that,
in another life, I might have bought.
There are no worries for one's appearance,
the only eyes belong to winking stars;
they take no interest in the peregrinations
of an insomniac.
Behind the dark and shuttered balconies
people are breathing but they dream,
wandering the corridors of makebelieve,
as do I down below;
the difference is I choose my fantasy
while they are caught on snatches of the day,
old ghosts returned, fragments of things barely remembered.
No one to please or to impress,
I wander free of obligation to do anything
but be.
I love the city when it sleeps;
it's my playground, my vacation
from the unforgiving Lazarus life
resurrecting each dawn.

RC, this is a very alluring image, with an equally lovely poem to accompany and amplify the mood of the wonderful work of art! l/f/g+

Superb work. Great composition and lines, the lighting is perfect and your treatment is outstanding. Great mood.
RC DeWinter replied:
Many thanks, Marnie. The original was bright daylight, so your kind words mean a lot, since what you was created in the toning, the lighting and the creation of the sky.

RC, a palpable crispness seems to be in the air, wafting out of this atmospherically evocative work!
