The breath of winter tinged
with the tongue of the grave
swirls around me as I sit shivering
in this room unwarmed by any touch of love.
I wrap up in a tatty plaid and, eyes closed,
shrink into myself, seeking some memory
capable of defrosting my soul.
Thus summoned, the sea, shimmering
in the shy sun of April, steals through me,
salting me with the bittersweet of you.
I remember the soft gold of the grass
where we lost ourselves in spring
and the adventure of each other,
bare skin scented with lust and flowers,
and the fluid greenness of a passion
that put newborn nature to shame.
So vivid is this landscape I forget the now;
my arms reach out from beneath the blanket,
the closer to embrace you.
Like a stainedglass panel
shattered by a vandal's viciousness
the vision vanishes and I am once again
a freezing failed lover,
left with nothing but the falling snow,
a blanket and the empty promise
of a far-off solitary spring.

It is better to have loved (deeply) and lost than never to have loved at all. I think about this quote when I read your passionate writing. And wow! Love this Spring Sea!!! F/L++
