the house that is me
on my way to nowhere
surrounded by rock and sky
interrupted by nothing but scrub
i round a sharp bend
and there is a house i recognize
i stop to reacquaint myself with it
built to withstand harshness
yet vulnerable to the depredations
of time and neglect
it stands alone and forgotten
in a windswept gully
far removed from civilization
windowglass long gone
plaster pitted and pocked
exposing crumbling underlayment
it could perhaps be rehabilitated
by one with an abundance
of energy and fierce dedication
unlikely though
it would be a labor of hercules
with no sure promise of reward
i get back in the car and drive away
resigned to the mercies
of abandonment

So simple of elements . . . a wall, a roof, a door, a couple of steps, one window . . . yet so very interesting. I love the spots where the plaster has fallen from the house to reveal the stones beneath it, the textures, the tones, and especially the geometry of the composition. I think I would have called this "On My Way to Nowhere" - that's a great line.

The perfect pairing of art and writing. I love your description for the house and abandonment of yourself and the house. Gorgeous painting showing the wonderful textural differences.

A prairie home, going back in time, with door, window and texture described so well.... yet so lonesome. L/f
