november beach
the wind
unaccountably warm for the season
ruffled the water just enough
to make the waves
trapped in their endless deadend journey
interesting
even the gulls were lulled into silence
by the springlike air
my feet sank into sand
that still held the heat of summer
and dredged up thoughts
of the heat of passion
i almost fell into a romantic reverie
but inevitable winter
just like death
is around the corner
so i turned my back to the sparkling sea
and headed home to prepare for both
