letter from portugal
every dark morning
at an hour fit only for cats
and the walking dead
i am assaulted
by the mindless braying of a jackass
heehawing as if its purpose in life
is to awaken the sun
a nightbird since birth
i've closed my eyes
perhaps three hours earlier
and am in no fit shape
to greet another day
but there is nothing to be done
this animal
the pet of the neighborhood
cannot be silenced
somehow the owners of this
pensao tranquila no bairro rustico
forgot to mention their donkey
and the blocks of flats adjacent
to the postagestamp plot of greensward
where unsuspecting guests are housed
and so
here in this land of sun and wine
what was meant to be my rejuvenation
has become a prison of exhaustion
a reminder that bestlaid plans
are often wisps of smoke
scattered by prevailing winds

The early hours of a new day are expressed in an innovative with with the different approach on perspective. I love the rhythm of the buildings, the colors and always your great descriptions RC.
RC DeWinter replied:
Thanks, Randy, a little impressionism never hurts if it's done well. I had fun with the narrative too.

Very beautiful work RC. You managed to give buildings an element of 'softness'. L/F/P

Pure brilliance RC, as is the wording in the letter, the darkness in the sky against the light and shading technique in the building, brilliant

Dawn Comes in Colors is fabulous, Gina. The night sky will be chased away with hope of the sunny day to come. A delight to wake up to. And then your poem brings the sound of the donkey into this tranquil setting and I enjoyed the humor. Love it. LFP
RC DeWinter replied:
Glad the writing brought a smile and you like the art as well, many thanks, Cheryl.
