blighted blossom
once i was a manypetaled rose
satinsoft
thornless
fragrant with the scent of innocence
just as roses wait
tethered to the mother plant
that feeds them
i
tethered to the yoke of expectation
waited to be plucked
sure the hand that did the plucking
would cherish me simply because i was
you know how that turned out
my petals curled
withered
fell
now i stand
denuded of all scent
no longer green
no longer fresh
from some sour spring of viscid sap
my thorns sprout thick and sharp
no hands reach out to pluck me

Elegant and beautiful painting. Your poem hits the mark as well. Many women forget to value themselves and think value only comes from a man.
