winterprep
as summer fades
and nights grow cool
the brief and gaudy lives
of fragile flowers end
i have been watching
the euonymus next door
exchanging summer's green
for blazing scarlet
it sparks a flame inside me
proof against winter's bonechilling bite
much needed for many reasons
not the least of which is
there is no lover here to warm me

This beautiful euonymous sits right on the stone wall separating my yard from the neighbor's here in Connecticut. Lucky me!
